This week's art quote:
The arts must be at the heart of every child's learning experience if... they are to have a chance to dream, and to create, to have beliefs, to carry a sense of cultural identity.
-James D. Wolfensohn,
former Chairman of The Kennedy Center

Board Resignation:
Charles Henry Bethea, the Executive and Artistic Director of the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, NE, recently stepped down from his position as Vice President of Education for Nebraskans for the Arts. He was nominated by a number
of individuals to serve on this board, after a 2003 statewide conference of arts education leaders became determined to re-invigorate Nebraska's Alliance for Arts Education. He was nominated for his vision, energy and creativity.  As Vice President - Education, Charles was responsible for providing leadership and direction in organizational development and oversaw the hiring of the first paid administrative director. He worked toward the creation of
a new organization, merging Nebraskans for the Arts with the Nebraska Alliance for Arts Education for leadership in the arts and education, and he oversaw the funding and development of  ArtsREACH, a statewide professional development program that is geared toward teachers (and their students) enrolled in majority-minority school districts across Nebraska. His efforts have been critical in creating a stable organization that will serve Nebraska into the future.  Charles came to this position with previous experience as Associate Executive Director (Entertainment) and Event Coordinator (School of Music) at Arizona State University. However it is his experience as a music and theater teacher at Balsz Elementary School District in Pheoniz (seven years), and his commitment to arts education, that were the most critical influences on his tenure with Nebraskans for the Arts.
We are grateful for Charles' many contributions to Nebraskans for the Arts, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
