What is ArtsREACH?

ArtsREACH is a professional development program in arts education and arts integration. In ArtsREACH, dance, literary arts, music, theater and visual arts are not treated as add-on, but as integral, positive and important parts of the curriculum.

The ArtsREACH program provides opportunities for Nebraska K-12 school district staff and teachers to participate in professional development activities designed to meet their specific needs. Teachers from school districts with majority-minority or high need student populations are encouraged to participate in professional development activities to develop and integrate the arts into their ongoing teaching or practice.

A three-day summer institute is offered in early June each year bringing interested teachers, teaching artists and educational professionals to the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska. The focus of this effort is on K-12 arts integration, and on developing concrete plans to integrate the arts in teaching. The ArtsREACH program also offers teachers with opportunities to participate in 2-3 hour professional development experiences, with several offerings occurring throughout the school year.

ArtsREACH Goals
-To involve classroom teachers, teaching artists and community artists in shared professional development activities that demonstrate how to integrate the arts into the curriculum, incorporating Nebraska standards.

-To provide in-depth professional development with the most up-to-date information and workshop leaders.

This 3-day summer institute offers professional development for K-12 teachers in arts integration in theater, music, dance, literary, and visual arts. In the institute teachers work with nationally known presenters to better understand arts integration and successfully plan lessons that can be used in their classrooms.
