Each month, Nebraskans for the Arts honors a Nebraska student who has made outstanding achievements in the Visual and Performing Arts. Nomination of students can be made by anyone with a relationship to the student; ideally the recommendation comes from a teacher, coach, director or school administrator.
Many people--among them parents, teachers, administrators, school board members, and policy makers--confuse the arts with entertainment. They do not understand that good programs of arts instruction benefit all students, not only the talented. They do not know that the arts: teach students to think critically, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions; help students learn to express themselves effectively; teach students to work as part of a team; and help to improve student attendance and graduation rates.
To spread recognition of talented arts students, the honored students will be showcased individually on this website. The student will receive a certificate of recognition, and the student’s school principal, superintendent and state senator will be notified in hopes of increasing awareness of the importance of these students’ achievements and talents.
