School plays, art classes, band and choir in high school paved the way for me to pursue theater, writing, drawing and singing at South Dakota State University. Now I call on all those backgrounds as movie and theater writer at the Omaha World-Herald. I didn’t plan a career writing about the arts. But when the opportunity came, I was ready. And even if it hadn’t come, the arts add immeasurably to the richness and creativity of my life. They make me more human, and more fully alive.
