Arts and literature, Omaha
Let’s see…as a shy student visual arts from Kindergarten on was always a positive and favorite part of the day or week. I grew up in District 66 schools in Omaha and we always had very enthusiastic, skilled and encouraging art teachers. In high school I remember writing an art history paper examining Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase” which the teachers’ copied for the whole class (about 100 students) and used for discussion. I was SO proud, excited and inspired (and I still have the paper!). I continued pursuing art through college and always kept up with my arts writing. I am now a local arts writer and definitely count my foundation of art-loving and appreciation to Mr. Vap at Oakdale Elementary!
